On another note, I am honored to tell you that the above painting, 'Reflections', recently sold to someone I respect as an artist and person.  thanks!!

Looking ahead...

Happy New Year!  I have so much planned for the new year including classes, workshops & various shows and will update my website with details soon!
I am continuing to focus my attention on figures and portraits, including the above piece that I am currently working on...."Waiting", a painting of a young expectant mother waiting for her husband to return from overseas...and for their new arrival.  I also have some exciting news to share with you in the near future...!

Thank You!!

What a great turnout this weekend for Amesbury's Open Studio weekend!  It was great to see everyone.  Thanks once again for all of the support you give me - personally and career wise - I am so lucky to have all of you.  Instead of showing you pieces I sold, I wanted to show you a painting I finished this week.  I really loved the light coming through the sail which is what I was aiming to capture.  I will be showing this piece at the upcoming Lowell's Boat Shop Annual Holiday Show in early December.  Visit my website for details!
Thanks again and again!

What Fun!

Friday evening I returned from a 3 day figure/portrait workshop in Vermont.  I learned a lot including using an alla prima approach which I had only used in my plein air landscape painting and I met some nice new people from as far away as England...now I am fueled to paint so keep your eyes open for some more portrait and figure work!  This is a study I did on the 2nd day of 'Lara'.

Thank You!

Last Saturday I participated in the Friends for Peace Wet Paint Auction...the conditions were a bit tricky with the rain and mist considering I worked in pastel!  Although I wimped out and painted from my car with the luxuries of a heated seat, music, food and warmth, it was a bit squishy and I wasn't able to stand back and view my work as it progressed.  Above is a picture of what I came up with...thank you to person who not only invested in my work, but also donated to a great cause!!

Cider Hill Farm

Even though today's forecast called for rain, I decided to see if I could squeeze a quick painting in before the sky opened up.  I am so glad I did - the sun broke out and stayed with me and my plein air painting group at Cider Hill Farm!  I did a 12" x 9" pastel painting of a beautiful tree and house on top of a hill...I planned to paint some chickens in the foreground but they were very uncooperative - maybe next time!

Thank You!

Well, after an iffy start, yesterday's weather cooperated and it was a beatiful, sunny day!  I had a great day at Andover's Art in the Park and so many people came by to see me....new friends, old ones and family too.  It was so good to see everyone - I appreciate all of the support and love you give to me.  Thank you to Pam and Charlie who come by every year intending to visit only - and end up with yet another piece of mine!

I have a few things up my sleeve coming up soon...stay tuned!

Thank You!

Today was the last day of the Band of Brushes' group show at the Newburyport Art Association.  Hopefully you were able to get by to see the show.  Thanks again to everyone that came to support me - it means so much!!  I was fortunate to sell two pieces but, alas, I had never photographed them :(    One was a plein air piece done on location in Kent, Connecticut.  The other was a piece similar to the one pictured above; it was
a turquoise boat....

Next up: Andover's Art in the Park on September 15 from 10-4pm.  Keep an eye out for more details.

Unreal...!

Yesterday I went to the PPSCC's opening reception for their For Pastels Only show...I was incredibly lucky to have received the Terry Ludwig Award which was the 60 piece Richard McKinley set!  Much to my surprise, my painting was also sold which means I won't have to drive back down to Yarmouth to pick it up ;)

Below is a pic of my new set that I can't wait to use....

Back to reality tomorrow....drop off day at the NAA for the "Town and Beach" show which starts on the 4th...

Have a great 4th of July,

Sunset in Chatham

Here's a picture I promised you of  the phenomenal sunset I saw in Chatham this past Saturday evening...the camera doesn't begin to capture its beauty!

Saturday the 30th is the reception for the Cape Cod for Pastels Only show - if you are lucky enough to be in the area stop in to the reception...I saw some incredible paintings being dropped off for the show.  Visit www.PastelPaintersSocietyofCapeCod.com for information on the show and reception.

A few weeks ago I told you that this piece was accepted into the Cape Cod Society's For Pastels Only juried show and that I felt so honored because of the incredible list of artists that I would be showing with.  I also promised to tell you which artist was accepted (whose books I own)...drumroll, please....well, it's Elizabeth Mowry!  If you are not familiar with her work, you should definitely look her up!!  Stan Sperlack (!) is also in the show, along with many other artists that I admire.  If you are in the area of the Cultural Center in Yarmouth, stop in and see the show which runs from June 26 through July 22.
Visit http://pastelpainterssocietyofcapecod.com for details on the show and the opening reception.

Btw, I was down at the Cape this weekend to drop my painting off for the show, and I got some incredible sunset pictures while I was there...I will post one soon...

"Break Time"

This painting was based on the view from my studio window...I couldn't see what everyone was looking at and I am still wondering what captured their attention.  "Break Time" recently went to a new home!

Stay tuned for details on the NAA's annual auction on June 16...

What a Weekend!

The incessant rain didn't damper my weekend - I got a call Saturday afternoon from the Newburyport Art Association telling me that one of my two paintings from the Regional Show sold as I was painting in my car (with the comforts of heat, a comfy seat and music!) for the Essex Art Center's annual wet paint auction.
I was very lucky to have sold both my wet paint piece and my silent auction piece!  I am so happy that I was able to help make a nice contribution to the EAC - a special 'Thank You' to both couples that purchased the pieces and to the numerous people that bid on them.  People like you keep the EAC going!

Each year I participate in the Essex Art Center's annual New Paint auction....30 artists paint en plein air and then auction their paintings off in the evening.  I will be painting 9am to 4pm on June 2.  To be honest, I haven't decided on my location yet, but I will keep you posted!  Join me at the live auction that evening and don't overlook the silent auction pieces - all for a great cause!  Visit http://www.robinthornhill.com/events or http://www.essexartcenter.com for more details.  Below is a sneak peek at my silent auction piece....

Hope to see you there!

I recently found out that this piece was accepted in the Cape Cod Society's For Pastels Only show which runs from June 26 through July 22 at the Cultural Center of Cape Cod!  It is really exciting for me for a few reasons - the fact that I was juried in, because of who the judges are, and I just got a list of the accepted entrants and some are artists I follow...I even own 2 books from one of the artists!  Stay tuned to find out who....

Honorable Mention!

I was really excited when I found out that the 2 pieces I entered in the Newburyport Art Association's 15th Regional Juried Show were both accepted, but I am just awed that one of the pieces also won an honorable mention.  Come by the show which runs from May 11 to June 9th; artist's reception is this Sunday from 3-5pm!

Another 'Thank You!' for all of the support I received during the last two back-to-back weekend long shows!  It's always so nice to meet new people and talk with old friends.  Above is an image of one of the pieces that were sold!  Thanks, again!!

Another Great Event!

It was a great weekend at the Melrose Arts Festival!  Thank you once again to everyone that made a special trip to visit me, all that took the time to stop and chat with me and of course to everyone that invested in more of my art!  I had so much fun and I am completely pooped out...need to rest up for the Artist's Muse Open Studio next weekend.  Thanks again!!
