"Cape Cod Sunset"

- Sold!
5 " x 7", Oil on Board
I love the Cape and I love marshes and beaches. I have painted this scene a few times, on a larger scale, but it keeps calling to me. I think I may try it in pastel next...
If you're in the Newburyport, MA area, stop by the Newburyport Art Assn. to check out the "Who Done It?" exhibit that is currently showing.

"FISH DISH"

6" x 8", Oil on Board

Last year I bought this little ceramic dish with a lid at a local junk store. I put it aside and forgot all about it as it got lost in all of my junk. As I cleaned out my studio this past weekend, I found my little lost treasure, and was happy to finally paint it...

"Candy Craze"

4 " x 4", Pastel, Framed

I'm back on track and my first painting marks the beginning of the "candy craze" month for my kids! They are so excited for Halloween - they know that the candy supply will soon be unlimited. Hope this adds some sweetness to your month!

"Fall Field"

This is a painting I finished recently that I will show this weekend at the Art-on-Bartlett Mall in Newburyport. Last year at this show we survived a thunderstorm with torrential downpours the first day and high heat and humidity the next. Cross your fingers for better weather this weekend and wish me luck! --Robin

This is a photo from my spring class that appeared in the Union Leader on June 27th...Audrey, Molly and Jeff working hard on their masterpieces! What I really enjoyed about the class was the diversity of the students ages, gender & nationalities, and we even had a married couple! Visit my website, http://www.robinthornhill.com to see a bigger version of this picture.

Hi everyone,

"Pretty in Pink, II"

8" x 8", Oil on Masonite

This little dog was just begging to be painted...or just begging for our snacks ;) Either way, I got a great photo of her!

"Clam Diggers"

6" x 8", Oil on Masonite

This couple was so cute digging for clams on the Cape, one of my favorite places to be!

I don't have a 'painting a day' for you, but thought I'd give you a peek at a piece I have been working on for the outdoor shows. I thought it was finished, but the more I look at it, I'm not so sure!!!

"Pretty in Pink, I"

--Sold!

Things are back to normal and I'm glad to say all is well. I'm so happy to be back painting again. While I was away, I had a lot of time to think....I've decided that trying to paint quickly takes a lot of the fun out of it for me; I've learned that I love the process of painting - so I will continue to post, just not as often. I plan on spending more time on each painting and also need to catch up on pieces for my upcoming shows...

This piece is titled 'Pretty in Pink, I' and as the name suggests, I plan on at least one more of this little cutie pie! I'll keep you posted. ;)

Tuesday, March 4, 2008

Hi everyone,

Sorry I've been out of touch; I have been dealing with a family emergency and have not painted at all since my last post. Things seem to be getting better, slowly. I hope to be painting and posting again soon. Take care - Robin

"Sauce Bowl"

--Sold!!

I have been collecting Japanese soup bowls and Asian sauce bowls lately for some still life paintings I would like to do sometime....so many ideas, so little time....

Sunday, February 10, 2008

I'm happy to say this piece was accepted into the Winter Member's Juried Show at the Newburyport Art Asc. in Newburyport, Ma. Please stop by if you are in the neighborhood to check out the show! I have been sidetracked lately, but will be back to posting this week....

"Shell"

--
--Sold!

I know - the name of this one isn't very creative, but it's all I have in me tonight...
My daughter brought this shell to me and asked me to paint it and then put it on the computer. She's so cute, how could I not??

"Baby Bella"

5" x 5", Oil on Masonite

It's funny how interesting I find things when I'm at the market. I now look for things to paint that I never would have considered eating!! I think this is the first time in my life that I bought fresh mushrooms...now if I only I learned to cook with them, my family would be happy!

"Attacked"

--Sold!
Today I spilled tacks all over my work table and decided it was easier (and more fun) to paint them than to pick them back up!

"Ginger Root"

6" x 6", Oil on Masonite

Did you ever see ginger root? It actually reminds me of something that would crawl around the bottom of the ocean. It's almost creepy. But definitely interesting - tons of texture, too. I really liked painting this one.

"Morning Stroll, II"

4" x 4" - 9" x 9" framed (frame included), Pastel
I love the little legs on this guy. I actually painted him before; he was my very first subject for my 'Painting a Day' project. And this probably won't be the last time I paint him, either!

"Hot, Hot, Hot!"

6" x 6", Oil on Masonite

I was shopping for these little Habanero peppers recently, when a woman asked me if I knew just how hot they actually are. I told her that I was only going to paint them, and she "Good - they are hot, hot, hot!" They look too pretty to be so dangerous!

"Pixie"

Not For Sale

This painting still needs a few little adjustments. I painted it for someone that is very special to me - I hope she likes it!

"Calm"

4" x 6", (7.5" x 9.5" framed), Pastel

This little piece was so much fun to paint. I repainted the sky a time or two, and I am finally happy with the end result. This was painted from a photograph taken at Cape Cod, Ma., a place where I could definitely live with endless inspiration!

"Sweet"

--Sold!!
4" x 4" (9" x 9" framed - included), Pastel
This 'sweet' little piece was done in pastel, which I plan on using more of this year. I love how the colors can be layered to achieve different effects. One of the many things on my 'to do' list this year is to compile some fast facts about the archival qualities of pastel to post or hand out at my shows. Many people are intimidated by pastel not knowing that they will last just as long as oil paintings, and will not fade, yellow or crack.

"Bench Warmers"

5" x 7", Oil on Masonite

My son named this one for me. I am not a big sports fan; I was stuck on a title for this piece. I had so much fun painting it though....it reminded of the one I did called 'On the Fence'; I think the players' personalities come through just in the way they are sitting.

Happy New Year!!

A little note to wish you a happy, safe and prosperous New Year! I have a long list of resolutions for myself; how about you?? I am rested up, and ready and anxious to return to painting! Tomorrow will be my first post of the new year; I can't wait to get started....
